Now in full color for the first time, the third edition of the Handbook of Pediatric Urology helps you better understand the diagnosis and treatment of all major urologic disorders and conditions in infants, children, and adolescents. A new third editor, Dr. Jeffery A. Stock—Director of Pediatric Urology at Kravis Children's Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York—and over 25 contributors provide thorough, concise coverage of the entire field, making this quick-reference ideal for bedside use as well as deep-dive research.
- New chapters cover robotics, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, and sexually transmitted diseases in adolescence.
- Updated with new content on robotic surgery, ultrasound, congenital anomalies, reflux, urinary tract infection, and other disorders.
- Each disease- or condition-specific chapter is structured similarly, addressing genetics, treatment options (including surgery), post-treatment care, and other key topics.
- Ebook features case studies—with explanations—and patient education material.
- Serves as a handy quick-reference for commonly used medications—including dosing, valuing, and formulae.
- Perfect for a range of readers: pediatric urologists, urology residents, medical students, residents, nurses, and physician assistants.
- Read directly on your preferred device(s), such as computer, tablet, or smartphone.
- Easily convert to audiobook, powering your content with natural language text-to-speech.
- Adapt for unique reading needs, supporting learning disabilities, visual/auditory impairments, second-language or literacy challenges, and more.
“This is the third edition of a well-established handbook covering the main topics in pediatric urology that was first published in 1997 and last updated in 2005.
The purpose is to provide an easy to carry, basic reference in pediatric urology. This book has been well received in the past and it has become expected reading for those rotating on the pediatric urology service. The third edition is a significant improvement over the previous one. It is shorter and easier to read and the images are in color. The online version is very straightforward and easy to use. This book accomplishes its objectives well.
The audience includes individuals rotating through a pediatric urology service: residents, medical students, and nurses, as well as those working in acute care settings such as emergency departments, urgent care and primary care practices (advanced nurse practitioners and physician assistants), when quick access to pediatric urologic information is needed. This book certainly meets the needs of the intended audience. All of the authors and the contributors are experienced, recognized experts in the field.
The book covers topics such as circumcision, hypospadias, undescended testes, abnormalities of sexual differentiation, etc. The 34 chapters are written in a concise and informative manner and all have "Recommended Readings" consisting of a few references. New chapters cover transitional urology, adolescent urology, and pediatric and adolescent gynecology, all which represent the more modern approach. The book is well organized in a sequence that appears to follow the likelihood of presentation of a given condition, starting with circumcision, then hypospadias, and ending with transitional urology. The chapters are well written, clear, and concise. The last chapter, Pediatric Urology Database, is comprehensive and worth having at hand. The only shortcoming is the review of priapism, as it does not include current pharmacological treatment of this condition, or a clear algorithm for this urological emergency.
This is a much enhanced edition of a very popular and established handbook in pediatric urology. The ability to access the information in an electronic fashion makes this a must-have for any person interested in this field.”
Weighted Numerical Score: 91 - 4 Stars!
